Wendy Brawer, Green Map founder and director, demonstrated the non-profit Green Map System, a sustainable mapping movement providing icons, engagement resources and mapping infrastructure (GreenMap.org). This was followed up by a meet-and-greet with the Jersey Access Group Co-Chairs, Bob Duthaler and Sharon Colucci, where we discussed local cable TV access channels.
Presentation by Sharon Colucci, Montclair TV34 Station Manager, and a demo of PageFreezer, a web and social media archiving application.
Vendor CivicPlus came to discuss their latest projects and other government web-related issues. Legislation was discussed in depth.
Google Transit on Google Maps
Thor Carlson of Sussex County presented their use of Google Transit, a public transportation planning tool that combines the latest agency data with the power of Google Maps. Upcoming legislation pertinent to web/internet was discussed.
All About YouTown
YouTown is a free mobile platform for all cities, counties and govt agencies, making it easy to connect with your citizens on the go. YouTown’s Sid Burgess visited GoWProNJ to talk about the free app.
Discussion: Hurricane Irene
What we each did; What worked; What didn’t work; Problems we can identify with emergency communications; What suggestions we can make as online communicators to help inform the public during emergencies. The results of this discussion will be put together as a white paper issued by GoWProNJ. Ideas on appropriate venues to distribute the white paper were also discussed.
